South India has a splendid variety of wildlife in India with numerous national parks and wildlife sanctuaries. From UNESCO-recognized Western Ghats to the dense and magnificent Nilgiris, every place is so beautiful that it can’t be described in words.
South India is extensively rich in flora and fauna with diverse eco-systems. Many important animals like Tigers and Elephants reside in the forests along with a wide range of species exclusive to a particular region down south. The adventure junkies can get plenty of adrenaline rush from the thrilling treks and quests along with the jungles.
To name a few of the wonderful national parks and wildlife sanctuaries in South India, we have Bandipur National Park, Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary, Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, Nagarhole National Park, and Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve.
The Bandipur National Park is considered one of the most beautiful national parks in India. It is situated amongst the charismatic surroundings of the Western Ghats on the Mysore-Ooty highway in Karnataka. Karnataka also has the biggest biosphere reserve in India, which is popularly termed as the ‘Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve’. This park is considered important due to its role in the efforts towards Eco-conservation in India; hence it is also considered the best wildlife tourism destination in South India.

The park is a natural habitat to a substantial number of Tigers along with other wildlife species like gaur (a type of bull), chital, wild boar, mouse deer, sambhar, four-horned antelope, panther, wild dogs, jackal, porcupines, sloth bear, Malabar squirrel, and the black-knapped hare. Many birds like the jungle fowl and green pigeon are also found here.
